Defining the Problem :

SonicSense was designed to solve a common music discovery challenge: people often remember parts of a song, a lyric, melody, or even just the vibe, but struggle to identify it. I wanted to create an AI powered music discovery app that allowed users to find songs through multiple inputs: humming, singing, typing lyrics, or describing what they remembered about the track.

The goal was to help music lovers reconnect with songs that were meaningful to them, while also allowing users to save discoveries and build personal collections. This project reflects my lifelong passion for music, my understanding of the challenges listeners face, and my desire to design experiences that are both intuitive and deeply engaging.

Designing the Experience :

I mapped out the key user flows: searching for a song via multiple input methods, AI interpretation of the inputs, presenting accurate results, and allowing users to save favorites. The interface needed to be simple, approachable, and informative, so users could quickly find songs without confusion or frustration.

Wireframes emphasized clarity, visual hierarchy, and guidance, with prompts for each input type (humming, singing, typing, or describing) and real time visual feedback showing how the AI interpreted the input. I also focused on reducing cognitive load and making the search results immediately actionable, so users could save songs effortlessly.

Iteration Through Testing :

Due to time constraints, formal external testing wasn’t feasible. Instead, I conducted informal testing with friends and family, asking them to try the app’s multiple input methods and observing their experiences.

This process highlighted areas for improvement: users wanted clearer prompts, faster AI feedback, and more intuitive ways to save and revisit songs. I refined the interface, simplified navigation, and enhanced visual cues to ensure users could experiment with different search methods seamlessly. Even though testing was informal, this iteration allowed me to validate design decisions, improve usability, and create an enjoyable, reliable experience.

Delivering the Solution :

The final SonicSense app enables users to discover songs in the way that feels most natural to them, whether humming, singing, typing lyrics, or describing the track. Users can then save songs, build collections, and explore related tracks, creating a fully personalized music library.

This project demonstrates my ability to combine AI technology with user centered design, translating a complex technical capability into a seamless, enjoyable experience. SonicSense highlights my approach to UX/UI: balancing problem solving, creativity, and usability to deliver solutions that are meaningful, engaging, and memorable for users.
